New parenthood can also bring mental health challenges for Dads – so let’s talk about it!
Perinatal mental health is not a term many new dads have ever heard and probably not something they’ve ever had a conversation about.
However, as this term refers to the mental health & wellbeing during pregnancy and after birth of all parents, including men, and that recent statistics show that 1 in 10 of all new fathers will experience a mental health difficulty, it seems shocking that so many expectant and new dads, are never asked about their own mental wellbeing.

Little Bluebell Devon

Little Bluebell in Devon is our new exciting partnership!

Over the past few weeks we have been working hard with our wonderful new colleague Selina, in Devon, on our partnership project, Little Bluebell. With funding from Comic Relief and Little Something, we are delighted to be working together with Selina, Jo Black and the Devon Partnership Trust Perinatal Mental Health Team to develop groups & peer support in Totnes and Torquay. We've been recruiting for new posts over the past few weeks for Buddies to support mums at home and in the community in the Torbay region and for a new local project co-ordinator and are very excited about all the applications that have come in for these roles. There is a real passion for peer support for mums experiencing postnatal depression and we've seen from our work in Bristol, what a difference it can make to know you're not alone and that you can get better! Through this partnership in Devon we hope to show how collaborative working and partnerships between the voluntary sector, NHS specialist teams, health professionals and parents with lived experience can provide a rich and full pathway for mums and families throughout their recovery. We feel privileged to be working with Selina, Jo and all the team in Devon and very thankful to our funders, Little Something and Comic Relief for enabling this partnership to happen.
