Bluebell Buddy Service

In response to focus groups run by Bluebell it was determined that mums experiencing depression related to pregnancy and birth, would also welcome  informal, 1:1 support,  as an alternative and sometimes in addition, to attending group sessions.

With ongoing funding from Comic Relief and the Big Lottery Fund, Bluebell is pleased to also offer a Buddy service.  This is a new, 1:1 befriending provision, established to support mums experiencing ante or post natal depression. Our Buddies have first-hand experience of managing depression, related to pregnancy and birth, themselves, and can provide support outside of our groups, as we are aware that attending a group is not always an option for everyone. Through offering the Buddy service it is Bluebell’s aim to provide extra support to mums outside of a group setting which can be accessed independently of the group or in addition to it.

We are currently able to offer our Buddy service in North Bristol (Brentry/Henbury area), South Bristol (Hartcliffe/Withywood area) and Central/East Bristol (St Paul's/Easton/Montpelier/Stokes Croft area).

Regular 1:1 meetings

The Buddy is available to meet mums on a 1:1 basis, who are currently experiencing difficulties, either at home or in the community and currently plays an integral part in supporting mums with accessing Mums Comfort Zone. To date mums have been provided with an empathetic listening ear, supported with getting out and about, filling in forms and signposting to other relevant services. The Buddy has also acted as an advocate for mums who have struggled to engage with other relevant service provisions.

It is now Bluebell’s aim that the Buddy service should eventually be rolled out to other areas of Bristol and eventually the UK, providing struggling mums with the support they need to access other services, which might help them to improve how they are feeling.
